Chapter Ten

Brex

“You a fan of horror movies?” I ask Luna while Asher clicks around to start streaming the movie.

She’s sitting sideways on the couch, her back against the arm, and her sexy legs behind me. From where I’m sitting on the floor, I can see up the tiny fabric shorts she has on, getting a peek at her thong, barely hidden in the fabric.

I think we all had the same thought when she walked in wearing them and an over-size tee that falls off one shoulder. She’d walked into a den full of lions looking, smelling, and tasting like our favorite cut of meat.

But we’re not animals, so no one’s jumped her.

Yet.

I’ll admit I’m getting close as she lets her knee fall to the side, and I get an even better view. It’s almost like she’s messing with me, and when I look up and see her grin, I’m convinced she is.

“Only when I have protection.”

I growl. Fucking tease.

When Asher told us he invited Luna to the cabin, I thanked the lucky fucking stars that I wasn’t still on night shift. And if I were, I would have found a way out of it to be with her, a thought that should scare the shit out of me.

“Tell us more about your art.” I rotate around a little, smoothing my thumb over her leg.

I want to get to know her. I think we all do.

She swallows a sip of water from the metal bottle she carries everywhere with her, reminding me of our little water bottle excitement from her studio the other night. My cock thickens thinking about her tiny fist wrapped around it in the dark closet.

“What do you want to know?” she says, a guarded vibe coming off of her.

The same one that has captured my attention since day one with her.

What are you hiding, baby girl?

“Have you always loved to paint?” Asher asks, sitting on the couch between her feet and an irritated Sutton. He tries to scoot down, his eyes barely lifting from his programming book.

“For as long as I can remember,” Luna answers. “I used to paint a lot of landscape type canvases, but now I’ve moved to more abstract. Wild, unrecognizable, chaotic. I love it.”

“You’ll have to show us some of your work sometime,” I say, genuinely interested to see whatever comes out of her mind, to see how she thinks in color.

“Maybe one day,” she says, smiling a little, but there’s more there, and I can’t help but push. I mean, it’s my motherfucking job.

“Maybe this fall when you’re at Princeton?”

“Right.” She nods at me, almost too quickly before glancing at the screen as Asher hits play.

“Do you have any siblings?” I ask, and her eyes drop back to me.

“What?” Then she shakes her head. “Oh, no.”

“So just you then,” Asher says, nodding. “Same, I’m an only child. It’s great, right? Getting spoiled.” He winks at her and some of the ice around her persona melts.

“Yeah, I guess you could say that.”
